New Look and Feel Communications

Modernization

In addition to moving to a new, more efficient office space, and overhauling our computer infrastructure, the PWGA, working with Board leadership, have spent considerable time and effort reviewing our documents and web site communications, and have arrived at a philosophical consensus about how the organization defines itself, what its core mission is, and how we can better communicate to our participants with that core purpose in mind.

As part of these discussions, we have designed a new logo and determined how we can use graphic and textual sensibilities to better communicate our core mission as “Trusted Guide” to our participants, from the outset of their first qualified writing assignment through their retirement years.

Communication

Paper documents remain an important part of what we do, but digital communications will become ever more central as we move forward.

The WGA began to use green envelopes as shorthand to let writers know that the envelope contained checks and should not be thrown away. The Pension and Health Fund has opted for the shorthand of a “summary box” on every document so that a reader can get a quick overview in order to ascertain if the document is relevant to their particular circumstances.

Going forward, all our communications are going to have the following qualities:

  • Clean. Elegant. Modern.
  • A summary side bar that explains what the document contains in a few sentences.
  • Summary Headings to help a reader locate relevant information more easily.
  • Lots of white space so that we don’t overwhelm the reader.
  • Accessible. Short, clear, concise sentences with paragraphs to help separate complex ideas and concepts into more easily digestible chunks.
